Whether you love or hate but Notches spread like an infection after landing “Apple iPhone X”. Now there’s a cure – Huawei is apparently working to release a smartphone a Notch-like hole in the display panel which would boast a front-facing sensor.
Based on a report released by ETNews, Huawei’s upcoming smartphone will sport a gorgeous 6.39-inch LCD display and expected to be released before the year is out. In order to increase an overall screen-to-body ratio of a smartphone, this hole appears a unique way without resorting to a pop-up camera we’ve already seen on Vivo Nex and Oppo Find X. In short, it’s a great move by Huawei. What about sensors? Images showed by ETNews indicates an ambient and proximity sensors would find themselves placed in a Tiny Bezel at the top. However, it’s not clear for now, if this is how ETNews expects Huawei to implement the hole, or if it’s a representation of one possibility.
Huawei’s which smartphone will get a new setup? This is something ETNews didn’t mention so far. In spite of that, a Huawei roadmap (leaked last year) suggested that the company will release a Mate Lite and Mate Pro devices in quarter four – if it’s to be believed – it is most likely to a premium smartphone.
Chances are a screen with a hole won’t be a surprise for those who are entirely against notches as it would leak some screen real estate being lost. It would, however, make for even way smaller cutouts as compared to those screens we’ve seen on Huawei’s own P20 series.
What are your thoughts? It’s indeed smaller compared to a notch and will enable for more notifications either side of it. Smartphone manufacturer brands seem to be afraid of having a sliding mechanism though, such as Oppo Find X and Vivo Nex. This design looks pretty safer and seems nice if done right. Most recently flagship smartphones with notches aren’t able to display a lot of status bar icons, but it won’t be a problem anymore with a small camera cutout.
Are you one of those who agrees that no notch is better? Let us know your thoughts down in the comments.
