Microsoft Announces New Window 10 Preview with Cortana Show Me

Earlier this week, Microsoft announced a new Window 10 Insider preview Build 17128 (RS4) for PCs with Cortana improvements and Windows Mixed Reality fixes. The RS4 branch characterizes a new Windows 10 update is expected to be shipped in April, but the company has yet to announce. However, there’s no new build from RS5 branch, but improvements by the server-side Cortana are rolling out there as well.

What is Cortana Show Me?

Did you ever encounter with a settings problems, but don’t know how to fix it? Here’s where the Cortana Show Me comes into play. It is now available for download in the Microsoft Store with ease. Simply enter Cortana Show Me into your guide to Windows 10 settings, Cortana will show you how to change settings step-by-step.

Most interestingly, in this release, it helps you launch guides directly from the app homepage, but make sure you have checked back soon for voice entry points. The app is available in English (both US and UK) and in German for Insiders.

Moreover, Cortana Show Me will respond to voice commands e.g. “Cortana, show me how to change the screen resolution”, but you would have the option to launch guides right from the homepage if your accent isn’t good enough.

In this article, we have created guides for 15 settings so far, but you can stay updated with further improvements and additional offerings. Though this experience isn’t particularly designed for Insiders, but rather, it’s for all the friends and family we have who need a pointer. Just share and let them know.

Tip: This app is currently rolling out across the world. So, if you’re unable to click the link in Store and cannot download the app, just wait a couple of hours and give it a second try.

Important Note: If there’s keyboard navigation attached to your device, you’ll need to press Alt + T to move between Cortana Show me and settings.

Highlighted below is a full list of guides:

  • Update Windows
  • Check if an app is installed
  • Uninstall an app

Apparently, Cortana Show Me will ultimately become a part of Windows 10, supposing users like it. Cortana, on the other hand, doesn’t have any other changes. Earlier this week’s update shunts the Windows 10 build number for the RS4 branch from 17127 (made available to testers on March 20) to build 17128.
