Facebook is Ready to Take its Serious Step to Monetize WhatsApp

Finally, Facebook has decided to start taking WhatsApp monetization a bit seriously as WhatsApp messaging service is now being used by billions of people every single day. Said by Wall Street Journal on Tuesday. WhatsApp is also testing a bunch of new features making it much easier for their audience to stay connected with their businesses and their nearest and dearest they want to reach on WhatsApp.

The messaging service said in a blog post.

“We’re building and testing new tools via a free WhatsApp Business app for small companies and an enterprise solution for bigger companies operating at a large scale with a global base of customers, like airlines, e-commerce sites, and banks”.

Most important of all, WhatsApp has already started an exquisite program which is going to feature a green badge next to a business contact. It sounds like the business is verified by the messaging service.

Chief Operating Officer Matt Idema says,

“We do intend on charging businesses in the future”.

In our previous articles, we’ve mentioned that one of the potential sources of revenue for WhatsApp is charge businesses that want to contact a customer, citing company documents.

WhatsApp started their services in 2009 but later in 2014 Facebook acquired WhatsApp for any eye-popping 22 Billion USD. Well, WhatsApp had a little revenue at the time of deal – the purchase price was a bit higher as compared to the market value of Sony Corp.

So far, Facebook didn’t focus a lot on WhatsApp. The Facebook had started showing ads inside its Messenger App in July 2017 to further monetize the chat service.

During Interview, Chief Operating Officer Matt Idema declined to describe the paid features or says,

“We don’t have the details of monetization figured out”.
